In 1680, Dieterich Buxtehude created a choral meditation exploring the body of Christ. Centuries later, an eclectic group of today’s composers respond to the seven cantatas’ eternal themes with transcendent choral works of their own. The full project will be presented over two separate concerts featuring The Crossing, a chamber choir regarded as “something of a miracle” itself (Philadelphia Inquirer).
For the first part of this two-concert experience, enter a unique spiritual and musical world with acclaimed American opera composer David T. Little (Dog Days, Soldier Songs); Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir, whose richly textured, enigmatic music was the center of an International Contemporary Ensemble program at the 2014 Festival; the youngest ever winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music, Caroline Shaw; and the German-born, Chicago-based composer Hans Thomalla, recognized for his erudite imagination.
Part 2 takes place on Sunday, August 21 at 7:00 and features responses by Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, Santa Ratniece, and Pulitzer Prize winner Lewis Spratlan.
You can purchase a ticket to both performances for just $50. To get the deal, select one performance to buy. Add the second when prompted and use code ICE7.*
