In 1680, Dieterich Buxtehude created a choral meditation exploring the body of Christ. Centuries later, an eclectic group of today’s composers respond to the seven cantatas’ eternal themes with transcendent choral works of their own. The full project will be presented over two separate concerts featuring The Crossing, a chamber choir regarded as “something of a miracle” itself (Philadelphia Inquirer).
The conclusion of this two-concert experience is colored by choral works from leading American composer and Pulitzer Prize winner Lewis Spratlan, poetic and radical Danish composer Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, and Latvian composer Santa Ratniece, who has won extensive acclaim in the United States for her choral collaborations with The Crossing.
Part 1 takes place on Sunday, August 21 at 3:00 and features responses by David T. Little, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Hans Thomalla, and Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw.
You can purchase a ticket to both performances for just $50. To get the deal, select one performance to buy. Add the second when prompted and use code ICE7.*
